Computer Hardware : Avid Launches S6 Control Surface - pcmusicBuilt on the same proven technology that is core to the industry-leading ICON and System 5 product families, the Avid S6 enables mixers to quickly turn around complex projects while swiftly handling last-minute changes. With its unparalleled ability to simultaneously control multiple Pro Tools® and other EUCON-enabled DAWs over simple Ethernet, S6 also speeds workflows and enables network collaboration on a single integrated platform.

Avid S6 redefines professional mixing with key features that include:

- Revolutionary modular design: Adapting to every stage of a user's business, the S6 control surface can be customized with the addition of the modules needed to match current workflow. It can be horizontally and vertically scaled as the client base grows. Pre-configured S6 M10 or S6 M40 surfaces may be purchased with the required faders, knobs, etc. already provided or, with S6 M40, further personalized with different channel control combinations.
- Superior ergonomics: A traditional, familiar console layout allows easy transition from previous systems. The multipoint touchscreen quickly and easily accesses plug-ins, large track counts, surround panning and more, while top-lit status knobs and high resolution OLEDs add operational efficiency. Additional 12.1" displays on S6 M40 systems further enhance instant project overview by providing deep visual feedback on key items such as channel names, audio meters, routing, clip names, and scrolling waveforms. Ultimate recall enables quick location for last-minute mix changes.
- Intelligent studio control: Compatible with Pro Tools and other popular EUCON-enabled DAWs, S6 enables detailed work on up to eight audio workstations simultaneously, as well as the ability to switch sessions in seconds from a single control surface across the facility. High-speed Ethernet connectivity makes it easy to reconfigure operations as business requirements dictate.
Availability and Pricing
Avid S6 will be available at Avid resellers worldwide in Q4 2013. As a modular system, S6 is available at a variety of prices, with M10 configurations starting at $21,995 and M40 configurations starting at $43,480.

Virtual Instrument : XILS-lab updates Chor X - pcmusicOriginally released last year to considerable critical acclaim, as implied by its obvious onscreen Bucket Brigade Delay Chorus legend, Chor’X is a bucket brigade delay emulation-based chorus plug-in providing several sought-after classic chorus effects and an advanced true stereo dynamic spacializer neatly wrapped in an eye-catching GUI gateway to tweaking its parameters in hitherto unseen speedy and spontaneous ways — allowing audio signals to be positioned in a true stereo space in intuitive fashion, for example.

There’s always room for improvement, of course. Chor’X is no exception to this unwritten rule of software development. Never happy to rest on its laurels, XILS-lab always strives to be the best at what it does and has worked hard to make Chor’X considerably better than ever via Version 1.5 — and not just in a shoddy emperor’s new clothes context either. Far from it, in fact. For above and beyond that tasty GUI XILS-lab has given the Chor’X concept an audio-visual makeover fit for a king!

Computer Hardware : RME Launches MADIface USB - pcmusicThe MADIface USB is a compact device that provides MADI I/O via USB 2.0 while supporting the format's full 64 channels.

Its sturdy and bus-powered design makes it as easy to use and reliable in your application. The MADIface USB is therefore both MADI portability at its best and a perfect desktop solution to connect MADI equipment to any Mac and PC.

MADIface USB offers several operation modes when used with a Mac or Windows computer: 64 Channel Mix, Redundancy mode, 128 Channel Mix and a straight routing mode.

The option Disable TotalMix completely disables TotalMix, the unit's flexible internal mixer and routing matrix. All input and output data is going straight to record/coming from playback, with no mixing or routing involved. In this mode the outputs are mirrored, carrying the same signal.

In 64 Channel Mix mode TotalMix shows 64 input, playback and output channels. All settings in TotalMix use the data from one MADI input port, and send identical data to both MADI output ports. The currently active MADI input port can be configured in the Settings dialog.
