'L/A', depending on where you look and who you ask, stands for Linear Arithmetic, Additive, or Algorithmic synthesis, an approach to sound construction involving the use of PCM samples (digital recordings of 'real' instruments), analog waveforms --- sine and square for example, and combinations thereof (structures).
